You might have come across people who say that greasy racks and carbon buildups add a bad flavor to the meat. Just say “No” to such people, and get your Pellet Smoker set for the cleaning process.
Well, many of you guys would have been postponing this task for a quite long time. So wasting less of your precious time, we will begin with the simple steps by which you can clean as well as maintain the Smoker system to get the Best Smokey results.
How to Clean a Pellet Smoker?
The infusion of wood fired flavor in the meat is mainly with the use of pellets in the smoker. Thus giving a unique taste compared to any other Charcoal smoker unit.
Before starting off with the cleaning process make sure the inside of the unit is entirely dry. This is because electronic devices are sensitive to moisture. Thus maintain the dryness before beginning the cleaning task.
Beginning with the Cooking Grates
Ensure the Pellet Smoker has to be completely dry and cool before starting off with the cleaning process. So you have to keep the unit unused for about 24 hours.
Coming back to the grates, you will find greasy formations on it. If they are treated right, these greases will affect the taste of your food as well. For cleaning this portion, you must use only the recommended BBQ tools. Tools which can be used here include grill grate cleaner system, grill flosser unit, and many others.
The dirt found on the grate is mainly carbon, and if proper care is not taken, then you will find them in your meat as well. This will result in giving a foul taste to the cooked meal. One important NOTE: Do not place this grill grate into a dishwasher.
Interior of the Cooking Chamber
First of all, you need to check if the unit is entirely cool and then unplug the device. Next empty the pellet hopper, because getting the pellets wet is not a good thing. Next, you have to work on the Ash present within. Now open the unit, and then pull out all the components inside it, which includes drip tray, cooking grates, frying pans, etc.
Run a dry vacuum cleaner to remove all the dry debris and ash. After this, look out for any grease built up formed inside the smoker. Using a paint stick kind of thing, try to remove some portions of the grease buildup. Later use warm soapy water, and start scrubbing and cleaning the interiors. The process needs to be repeated till all the dirt comes out.
And finally, wash it off and let the system dry.
For the Exteriors
It is almost same as the cleaning of the interiors. The only difference is that you need to keep the soapy solution on the unit surface for about 30 seconds so that they can easily break down the grease formed on it. Keep on repeating the process till the complete buildup is not removed.
Dry the Pellet Smoker for at least 24 hours before starting to cook on it.
If you wish to maintain the Smoker system clean and want it to be less greasy, then clean it regularly after every 2-3 days of usage. So be more active and get the best out from your Pellet Smoker!
